division 36 - and his wife Émilie Louise Beauharnais comtesse de Lavalette (1781-1855). Antoine was a French politician and Minister of Posts; Émilie was the niece of Joséphine Bonaparte. A supporter of Napoleon, Antoine refused to go into exile and was arrested in late 1815. He was subsequently sentence to be executed. The night before the execution his wife and young daughter visited him in jail. He switched clothes with his wife and escaped both jail and execution. His wife remained in prison until January of 1816 when she was released. The relief shows Antoine dressed in his wife’s clothes in order to escape from jail and execution while his daughter keeps watch out the door for the prison guard.

division 36 - The two sculptures (1844?) are an interesting variation on the classical caryatid theme flanking the entrance to the family crypt. On each side of the door of the chapel is a veiled caryatid: one holds a cypress branch with one hand and with the other drops some coins; the other caryatid holds a cypress branch and an inverted torch.
